Dawn, the start of day and light ephemeral
Dusk, the return of night and demons feral

My bristling, barren back, clothed by this forest night
Trembling hands, twitching fingers, grey nails
My only fork and knife, this bonfire my only light
Bones so brittle, a man so frail, damp skin so pale

Warming light in front of me
Chilling howls far behind me

In the darkness
Forever in darkness
With the silver bullet
I will find the way

The forest’s nightmare din, broken by this snapping fire
Illuminating the way, yet so lethal its burn
Upon my chest, the body of a varnished lyre
Humming and strumming to stop this coming turn

So sweet is the sound around me
Cackles of demons surround me

In the darkness
Forever in darkness
With the silver bullet
I will find the way

My mouth, gnashing teeth, a demon’s maw, licking fangs
This varnished lyre, crumbling in my hands
No song so soothing, as what the black crow sang
Now to turn, and join these demons in their clans

Destructive flame in front of me
Seductive howls right behind me

Salacious symphony all around me

To dusk
To night
And to dusk again

In the darkness
Forever in darkness
With a silver bullet
I will find a way
